Australia’s Emergency Services
Australia is renowned for bushfires, cyclones and flooding – and some years seem kinder on us than others. Where would we be without the dedicated efforts of Australia’s emergency services?
The Rapid Relief Team offers a unique catering support service to Australia’s federal and state emergency services. Over time, we have mobilised and streamlined our operations to respond with immediacy and efficiency to natural disasters across Australia’s states and territories.
Our volunteers are trained and accredited to set up catering tents at base camps – designated as safe zones by emergency services crews. Our operations are governed by WHS requirements by state and territory. Our catering services also offer support at training events for fire brigades across the country.
Tasmanian Fires 2016
Over January and February 2016, over 70 fires burned in Tasmania for over 20 days, destroying over 96,000 hectares – including World Heritage areas.
RRT volunteers set up catering facilities at Circular Head, Lake Mackenzie and Nunamara fire fronts. Operating from designated staging areas, our volunteers served close to 3,000 meals to the SES, Tasmanian Fire Services, Parks and Wildlife, Forestry and police services.
Perth-Mundaring Fires Jan 2014
RRT volunteers provided hope amongst the devastation of the Perth-Mundaring fires in January 2014.
Working closely with police, emergency services and local councils, RRT were established as the only relief team approved to work within the fire zone. Over 5,000 meals were served across three operations, along with volunteer support for the Salvation Army, generators to affected residents and petrol to local fire authorities.
