RRT Supports COVID-19 Crisis

Rapid Relief Team volunteer, Lester Sharples, recently spoke with ABC to share the relief efforts RRT have been providing to people in self-isolation for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Lending a helping hand to people in crisis is at the heart of what we do at RRT, whether it is for people affected by fire, drought or a global pandemic, we see a need and find a way to support. With the COVID-19 outbreak, we identified a need to help our neighbours get through some tough times by donating RRT Food Boxes.

Anthony Hearps was recently quarantined for COVID-19 after having to change his plans, and head home mid way through his trip to China as the outbreak started.

“Two guys delivered an RRT Family Food Box and it helped me out immensely. I would have been in a really tough situation without this support, which I was fortunate enough to receive twice – once when I was in quarantine, and the second time when I was just out of quarantine. It was great to have an organisation reach out and help me. I contacted the big organisations and because I didn’t have a Centrelink CRN, they wouldn’t help me. RRT – you guys do a great job!“

At this point in time, we’re currently supporting people in self-quarantine in Queensland who have been referred by the Community Recovery service. If you live in QLD and need support, call 1300 HEALTH who will be able to assess your situation, and organise support through this initiative should you qualify.
