Recently, the Cleveland Rapid Relief Team (RRT) was privileged to provide a meal for the Ronald McDonald House located in Cleveland, Ohio, for what one member called “A family of families”. The Ronald McDonald House is a well-known beacon of support and a haven of rest for patients and their families in the Cleveland area.
The Ronald McDonald House provides lodging, food, and many other amenities for persons that visit the Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth Hospital, University Hospitals Rainbow Children & Babies, and several other Cleveland area medical centers. The house allows families to come and go as they please, anytime of day or night and serves as a home away from home. The Ronald McDonald House can accommodate up to 55 families each night in private suites all of which require meals each and every day. This remarkable feat is made possible by volunteer groups such as RRT and the amazing staff of the Ronald McDonald house.
On May, 28th, the RRT Team was asked to prepare a meal for approximately one hundred patients and families at the Ronald McDonald House. The meal consisted of chicken, mashed potatoes, tomato & pepper salad as well as green beans. To top off the feast, a cold ice cream oreo dessert was made which was especially enjoyed by the kids!
Starting with the basic ingredients only, all food had to be prepared on-site; from peeling potatoes, to chopping tomatoes, to basting chicken, the RRT volunteers did it all in the Ronald McDonald House kitchen.
The patients, their families, and the staff were all very appreciative of the meal provided which was served buffet style. It was a memorable experience to be able to help and support the patients and their loved ones in such a special family setting. As one happy eater said “I hope your team comes back!!” and we couldn’t agree more…
