Rapid Relief Teams from Warrenpoint, Londonderry, Dublin and Belfast in Ireland were honoured to provide assistance at yet another charity marathon in the region.
The event was called Tollymore Trail marathon 2014 (TTM14). It was located in Tollymore Forest Park in the Mourn Mountains in Northern Ireland. The nearest town is Newcastle.
The RRT volunteers started at around 6:00am by setting up the food stations on the route.
Over 80 volunteers from RRT Ireland managed refreshment food stations along the whole route. Exhausted runners welcomed the smiling faces and bottles of water to hydrate them for the next stint of the course. RRT also provided marshalling services to ensure runners participating were kept safe, and didn’t get lost.
The first shift of volunteers arrived at 7am and were provided with hot breakfast by the BBQ team. They were then taken out to their positions on the 13 mile track in a transport convoy. The second shift of volunteers arrived at 12pm and were provided with lunch and were taken to relieve those on the first shift.
The marathon itself was a loop marathon. The half marathon was 1 loop, the full marathon 2 loops and the ultra-marathon 3 loops. This meant that RRT volunteers saw the same runners a number of times. There were about 600 runners in total, and the day finished at 4:30pm.
