Supporting the Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) is a truly worthy cause. Since its inception in 1984, the ACRF has awarded $94.5 million in grants to world class cancer research centres in Australia. These grants are used to fund state of the art technologies and facilities which accelerate the discovery process in the fight against cancer.
Tragically cancer directly affects 1 in 3 Australian men and 1 in 4 women before the age of 75, we all have a story to tell, loved ones, family, friends, community, colleagues, employees, no one is exempt.
RRT contacted the ACRF to offer our charitable resources to help raise the needed funds in support of the great work the ACRF does. With the ACRF partnering with Color Me Rad (CMR) to hold a fun run in February it seemed a perfect fit for RRT to help out with supplying the 140 volunteers needed to make the day function. RRT took on the responsibility for all the volunteer work, offered to provide chilled water for race day and to include a bonus ‘wow’ factor of the RRT fire truck and pump stations to pump coloured water on the runners, a first for a fun run!
The Sydney Motor Sport Park (SMSP) venue was set up by 50 RRT volunteers including the Team Leaders who took time out to familiarise themselves with the raceway and tasks allocated for race day.
Race day began at 6:30am for the 100 RRT volunteers. Eager runners soon followed and by 7:30am it was full on.
Initially RRT helped the SMSP staff with parking, registration and handing out CMR merchandise. With over 4000 runners RRT had plenty to do.
The RRT fire truck and pump stations were set up to bomb the runners with coloured water.
At 8:40am all RRT volunteers were transferred to their race positions. This included; Start line, 3 x colour bombing stations, 2 x coloured water bombing stations, 2 x chilled water stations and finish line colour packet handouts.
The race went well with CMR coordinating the waves of runners which consisted of around 500 people at a time. It was a fun day, colour was everywhere!
RRT donated the chilled bottled water and distributed it throughout the day, 8500 bottles were consumed by either drinking it or pouring it over a friend!
After the last wave of runners RRT began to clean up…. Beginning from the starting line the 5k race track was cleaned and equipment packed away, leaving only the finish line and infield party area until the event closed.
RRT enjoyed the day, it was fantastic to see so many, including families, the young and old having fun.
RRT would like to thank the runners for their support, the ACRF and CMR team for the great day and opportunity to help such a worthy cause.
